Four Jennies in double-figures at UCM defeats Missouri Western, 75-55

Box Score (ST. JOSEPH, Mo.) – Senior Renae Shippy scored a team-high 13 points, while three other players reached double-figures in Central Missouri's 75-55 road win over Missouri Western on Wednesday night. The victory caps off a five-game road trip that saw the Jennies go 4-1, and moves UCM (19-6, 13-6 MIAA) into a tie for third in the MIAA standings with Emporia State

The Jens jumped ahead of the struggling Griffons (6-19, 4-15 MIAA) early, taking a 1-0 lead after a free throw from Kaneesha Lee, and leading throughout the rest of the game. Seniors Taylor Hanson and Saraethea Brown increased the lead, sinking six total three-pointers in the first half. Hanson and Brown, along with Lee, led UCM with nine points heading into the intermission. Central Missouri took a 37-17 lead into halftime, holding Missouri Western to just 13.8% shooting in the first half.

The Griffons started the second half ready to chip away at the Jennies lead, trimming what was a 20-point edge down to 14 points. Central answered with a 7-1 run, highlighted by a pair of baskets in the paint from Nicole Caddell, bringing their lead back up to 56-36 with 10:54 to play. Missouri Western was unable to get back in the game from that point, as the Jennies took a 75-55 win.

Shippy was one of the keys in holding off the Griffon comeback, scoring all of her 13 points in the second half. Caddell also scored 10 of her 12 points after halftime, cementing the victory. Brown and Taylor also finished with 12 points. Shaquanda Wiggins collected a game-high nine rebounds to go with her six points.

The Jennies return to Warrensburg this Saturday for the final home game of the season, against Truman. Tipoff is set for 1:30 p.m. The Jens' six seniors will be honored before the game as part of the Senior Day festivities.
