Jennies snap two game slide, defeat Fort Hays 76-66

Box Score (WARRENSBURG, Mo.) – Dominating on both sides of the court, the Central Missouri Jennies used a complete performance to knock off the visiting Fort Hays State Tigers, 76-66. The Jens took a 20-point lead into halftime with a 54.5% shooting performance in the opening half, while holding the Tigers to just 32.8% shooting for the night. Senior Nicole Caddell led UCM with 22 points while grabbing 12 rebounds for her fourth double-double of the year.
The Jennies held Fort Hays to just 28.1% from the field in the first half, including 0-for-9 from the three-point line. Central leaped out to a 13-2 lead to open the game with three treys, including a pair from Taylor Hanson. The senior sharpshooter finished with 16 points and three treys on the night.
Highlighted by a 10-3 run over a three minute span, the Jens stretched their lead to 20 points before intermission. Fort Hays answered in the second half, cutting the UCM lead to under the 20-point mark at 48-29 with 16:27 to play, then using a 7-2 run to cut the Jens' advantage further, to 54-40 at the 12:38 mark. The Tigers looked to make a game of it, pulling within six points after four free throws from FHSU's Traci Keyser made it 69-63 with 1:16 left. Caddell's layup coming off of a full-court pass from Hanson put the game away, as the Jennies defense did not allow another field goal. Hanson and Alyssa Rhodes went a combined 5-for-6 from the free throw line over the last minute to ensure the victory.
Along with Caddell, Hanson (16) and Renae Shippy (14) finished in double-figures in scoring. Senior Saraethea Brown came just short of her first double-double of her career, pulling down a career-high 13 rebounds while scoring eight points.
With the win, the Jennies snap a two-game slide and improve to 3-4 in the MIAA, and 9-4 overall. The Jennies will take the weekend off before hosting Northwest Missouri State next Wednesday, January 11, at 5:30 p.m.
