Box Score (WARRENSBURG, Mo.) – Senior
Nicole Caddell scored a team-high 19 points, as the Central Missouri Jennies took a 72-67 victory in a regionally televised matchup with the Missouri Western Griffons. The Jennies have now won three straight and five of the last six.
The Jennies leaped out to a 10-0 lead, highlighted by back-to-back three pointers from
Renae Shippy and
Saraethea Brown. The Griffons answered with an 18-4 run that gave them a four-point edge with 7:36 to play in the first half. The momentum tipped back in favor of the Jennies, who finished the half scoring 16 of the last 20 points and lead 32-22 at the half.
Shippy hit one of her three treys with 16:29 to play in the second half to give UCM their biggest lead of the game, 44-28. The Jennies would maintain a double-digit advantage until the halfway point of the second half, when the Griffons scored seven straight, cutting the UCM lead to seven, at 49-42. Missouri Western briefly tied the game with a pair of free throws from
Ashleigh Curry, but a three from
Taylor Hanson gave the Jens the lead for good, as defense and rebounding closed out the win for Central Missouri.
Senior
Alyssa Rhodes finished with a career-high 13 points, nearly recording a triple-double, with nine assists and seven rebounds. Brown also finished with 13 points, while
Kaneesha Lee and Shippy recorded 11 points each.
With the win, the Jennies move back above .500 in the MIAA, at 5-4, and improve their overall record to 10-4. The Jennies start off on a three game road trip this Wednesday, January 18, when they travel to Kirksville to face off against Truman, starting at 5:30 p.m.
