Central Missouri volleyball wins in dominant fashion over Southwest Baptist
(WARRENSBURG, Mo.) – The No. 8 Central Missouri Jennies closed out their six game homestand with a straight-set victory over the Southwest Baptist Bearcats. Senior Allie Huffman led the Jennies with 13 kills.
The Jennies continued their recent trend of jumping out to big leads early, as they posted a 6-0 score in the opening set, and a 9-0 score in the third set before Southwest Baptist got on the scoreboard. The Bearcats led a set only once throughout the entire match, after a Central Missouri attacking error gave SBU a 1-0 lead in the second set. Twenty-three attack errors from the Bearcats, combined with a solid performance from the Central Missouri back line, held SBU to just a .036 hitting percentage.
Senior libero Taylor Krejci anchored the Jennies defense; the Hickman, Neb. native collected a team-high 19 kills, her highest total in a three-set match since the win over Pittsburg State earlier this month. Fellow senior Kelsey Ortwerth collected 10 digs as well.
On the front line, senior Paula Harris collected 12 kills while taking only 16 attacks; her .750 hitting percentage on the night ties her personal best. Harris went 15-of-20 with no errors in a win over Edinboro last season.
With the win, Central Missouri improves to 8-3 on the season, and 2-0 in the MIAA, moving into a tie for first place with Washburn in the early stages of conference play. The Jennies hit the road this Friday, as they travel to Joplin to take on the Missouri Southern Lions. The match is scheduled for a 7 p.m. start.
