Jennies pull out 66-65 victory over No. 24 Quincy

Box Score (WARRENSBURG, Mo.) – Senior Taylor Hanson led all scorers with 20 points, while Shaquanda Wiggins recorded her second double-double of the season with 10 points and 11 rebounds, as the Central Missouri Jennies held off the 24th-ranked Quincy Lady Hawks in a 66-65 win.
Hanson pushed the Jennies to a first half lead, going 3-for-3 from beyond the arc. Hanson gave the Jens a 12-11 lead with her second trey of the half, and the Jennies took control, leading all the way until intermission. Alyssa Rhodes' layup gave UCM its largest lead at 32-23 with four minutes in the first half, but the Lady Hawks were able to pull within three at halftime.
Quincy kicked off the second half with a 10-5 run, giving the visitors a 41-39 advantage. The Jennies were able to take a quick lead, but the Lady Hawks controlled the game from the middle of the second half until a pair of free throws from Nicole Caddell put the Jens up 64-63 with 1:50 to play.
After a layup from Quincy's Kassidy Shuman with a 1:18 to play, Caddell came through again, hitting the game-winning layup with just over a minute to play. Quincy had four looks at a winning shot, but the Jennies defense closed out the win, with a pair of big defensive rebounds from Wiggins and Caddell.
With the win, the Jennies move to 4-0 on the season, their first 4-0 start since 2005. The win also is the first over a ranked opponent since the 2010 MIAA Tournament, where the Jennies upset Emporia State in the first round. The Jennies are back in action Monday night, when they host Benedictine (Kan.) at 7 p.m.
