(WARRENSBURG, Mo.) – The number 12 University of Central Missouri Jennies (10-1-0, 3-0-0 MIAA) blanked the Washburn Lady Blues (1-8-2, 1-1-1 MIAA) 5-0 Thursday night in an MIAA Match at the South Recreation Complex in Warrensburg. The Jennies had a balanced attack all evening as four different players scored goals in the victory.
The game started slow, with neither team able to find the goal thanks to stellar defense by both teams. That would change in the 26
th minute though, as
Becky Lackey (St. Peter's, Mo.) guided a pass from
Alyssa Rhodes (Olathe, Kan.) past Washburn goalie Tori Fuglister to get Central Missouri on the scoreboard first, 1-0. The goal by Lackey was her sixth of the season. Lackey's goal opened the flood gates for the Jennies, as they would score two more goals in a matter of 12-minutes to extend their lead to 3-0. In the 31
st minute, Rhodes pounded a header into the net off a
Caysi Shouse (Waukesha, Wisc.) assist. Rhodes wasn't done though, as just seven minutes later, she again headed the ball into the goal, this time off a corner kick from
Kayla Shain (Olathe, Kan.) to increase the Central Missouri lead. The Jennies weren't done with the half just yet, as
Aaryn Burke (Deltona, Fla.) hammered another corner kick from Shain past Fuglister in the 44
th minute to make it 4-0 UCM going into the half.
The two goals by Rhodes give her a team-high seven goals this season while Burke picks up her first of 2011. The Jennies outshot Washburn 13-0 in the first half with a 6-0 advantage in corner kicks.
The second half started off much like the first with neither team able to find the goal. Central Missouri would strike in the 73
rd minute though, after
Sarah Hotop (Mexico, Mo.) pounded the ball into the net to make it 5-0 Jennies. The goal by Hotop is her first this season.
For the match, Central Missouri outshot Washburn 27-1 with an 11-0 advantage in corner kicks. Jennies' goalkeeper
Brooke Cooley (Alton, Ill.) improves her overall record in goal to 10-1-0.
The Jennies begin a three game road trip starting Sunday with a trek west to Emporia, Kansas for a 1 p.m. MIAA Match against the Emporia State University Hornets.
