(BOLIVAR, Mo.) – The University of Central Missouri Jennies (16-1-0) had five different players score goals and rolled to a 6-0 victory over Southwest Baptist (3-11-2) Thursday afternoon at the SBU Soccer Field in Bolivar, Missouri.
Central Missouri scored its first goal of the match only seven minutes into the first half after
Alyssa Rhodes (Olathe, Kan.) headed in a corner kick from
Kayla Shain (Olathe, Kan.) putting the Jennies up 1-0. It was Rhodes' team-high 12
th goal of the season and Shain's eight-assist on the year. The Jennies didn't waste time adding to the lead, as just a minute later, in the eighth minute,
Sharaya Sidebottom (Blue Springs, Mo.) controlled a cross-pass by
Kelsie Hanson (Olathe, Kan.) and sent it flying past Southwest Baptist goalkeeper Megan Link increasing the Central Missouri lead to 2-0. The goal by Sidebottom is her second this season while Hanson's assist marks her third of 2011. The first half would end with yet another Jennie goal, this time from an
Alyssa Rhodes penalty-kick in the 30
th minute. The PK goal by Rhodes marked her second of the day and 13
th overall this season.
The Jennies outshot Southwest Baptist 9-1 in the first half with a 3-0 advantage in corner kicks.
The second half started off quick again for Central Missouri. Just two minutes into the final stanza, in the 47
th minute,
Kayla Shain netted her first goal of the season to put the Jennies in front 4-0. Central Missouri got another goal 15-minutes later when
Caysi Shouse (Waukesha, Wisc.) found the net picking up her fifth goal of the year and upping the Jennies lead to 5-0. The Jennies added a final goal in the 76
th minute when
Erin Robinson (Smithville, Mo.) hammered the ball into the net from the left side of the goal box giving UCM the 6-0 lead. The goal is Robinson's second of the season.
For the match, the Jennies outshot Southwest Baptist 21-3, with 16 of those being on-goal, and had a 5-2 advantage in corner-kicks. Central Missouri has now outshot its opponents this season, 360-65. Jennies' goalkeeper
Brooke Cooley (Alton, Ill.) picked up her seventh shutout of the season and improved her overall record in goal to 15-1-0 with the victory. She also netted two saves for the Jennies in the match.
The Jennies are back in MIAA conference action Saturday afternoon in Kirksville, Missouri for the regular season finale against the Truman State Bulldogs (11-4-2). Both the Jennies and Bulldogs are a perfect 7-0 in MIAA conference play. The winner of the match will claim the 2011 MIAA Regular Season Title and the top-seed in the MIAA Soccer Tournament next week in Kansas City. First-kick is set for 1 p.m. at Bulldog Soccer Park.
