(WARRENSBURG, Mo.) – The number 10 ranked University of Central Missouri Jennies soccer team (14-1, 6-0 MIAA) defeated the Northwest Missouri State University Bearcats (8-4-2, 5-2 MIAA) 2-0 on a chilly Thursday night at the South Recreation Complex in Warrensburg.
The first half started quick for the Jennies and the Bearcats, as both took shots in the first three minutes of the match. The Jennies found the goal in the 28
th minute after
Kristin Bright (Fenton, Mo.) fed a pass to
Caysi Shouse (Waukesha, Wisc.) on the right side of the goal box. Shouse headed it into the net to make it 1-0 Central Missouri and score her fourth goal of the season. The assist by Bright is her fifth for 2011. Neither team would score again the rest of the half as both defenses held strong.
The Jennies outshot the Bearcats 9-1 in the first half and had a 6-0 advantage in corner kicks. Central Missouri goalkeeper
Brooke Cooley (Alton, Ill.) netted her only save of the match in the first half.
The second half was a defensive battle, with neither team finding the goal until nearly 25 minutes elapsed. Central Missouri struck again in the 70
th minute when
Becky Lackey (St. Peter's Mo.) controlled the ball and hammered it past Northwest Missouri State goalie Kelsey Adams from 18 yards out to put the Jennies up 2-0. The goal is Lackey's eighth this season.
For the match, the Jennies outshot the Bearcats 17-2 and held Northwest Missouri to no corner kicks compared to 10 for Central Missouri. Of the 17 shots Central Missouri took, 12 of those were on-goal giving them a shots-on-goal percentage of .705 for the match.
Central Missouri has now won 30 consecutive MIAA matches. The Jennies are right back in action Saturday night for senior night at 7 p.m. at the South Recreation Complex against Missouri Southern in another MIAA match. Saturday's match marks the final regular season home match for Jennies seniors
