No. 22 Jennies fall at Emporia State for first loss of season, 80-66
Box Score (EMPORIA, Kan.) – Junior Shaquanda Wiggins recorded her third double-double of the season, but the 22nd-ranked Central Missouri Jennies fell in their first road test of the MIAA season, 80-66 to the Emporia State Lady Hornets.
            Wiggins led the Jennies with 23 points, along with 12 rebounds. Senior Nicole Caddell added 22 points, marking the third straight game the Tuscaloosa, Ala. native has reached the 20-point mark.
            The Jennies never led in the contest, as a pair of layups from Wiggins tied the game at 2-2 and 4-4 in the opening minutes. The Lady Hornets answered with five straight points and did not relinquish the lead throughout the remainder of the game.
            UCM had a pair of runs in the first half to nearly erase Emporia State's lead; another pair of field goals from Wiggins along with a three-pointer from Taylor Hanson cut the lead to 14-13 with 12:59 in the first half. The Jens scored six straight later in the half that again pulled the team to within one, 22-21, with 5:45 left in the half.
            Down 66-51 at the six-minute mark of the second half, the Jennies went on a 7-0 run that cut the Lady Hornets' lead inside ten points, 66-58 with 3:50 to play. Emporia outscored UCM 14-8 over the final three and a half minutes, however, to take the game, 80-66.
            The Jennies were never able to find the long range attack, shooting just 22.2% from beyond the arc, compared to their usual 45.6% during the season. The Jennies also gave up 36 points in the paint, the highest total allowed so far this season.
            With the loss, the Jennies fall to 7-1 overall, and 2-1 in the MIAA. Central Missouri will return home this Wednesday, December 14, when they host the Lincoln Blue Tigers at 5:30 p.m.
