Alyssa Rhodes led the No. 16 Central Missouri Jennies soccer team to its fourth straight win today with a 3-0 shutout over Northwest Missouri at the Bearcat Pitch in Maryville, Mo. It is the first win for UCM in Maryville since the 2007 season.
The Jennies improve to 4-0 on the season and to 2-0 in the MIAA, while the Bearcats fall to 0-3-2 overall and 0-2-1 in conference action.
The Jennies outshot the Bearcats 23-3 in the game, tying a season-high for shots. They also took 11 corner kicks to the Bearcats zero.
Central Missouri put the pressure on early as Rhodes scored what proved to be the game winning goal in the 26
th minute. She took a pass from freshman
Carly Stanley at the top of the box and kicked the ball in just over the goalkeepers hands.
Then five minutes into the second half, Rhodes extended the lead for UCM with another goal. This time freshman
Becky Lackey kicked a high pass to Rhodes who headed the ball inside the box and to the back left corner of the net.
This is the first time in Rhodes' collegiate career that she has scored two goals in the same game. She now leads the team with three goals this season. Stanley recorded her second assist on the season and Lackey collected her first.
After a foul on Northwest Missouri, senior
Lexie Bristow went down the field for a security goal and her first of the season in the 72
nd minute of action.
Freshman
Brooke Cooley played the whole game in net, recording her second win as she did not face any shots.
The Jennies will return to action on Sunday when the travel to Omaha, Neb to face the Mavericks. First whistle is slated for 12:00 p.m. from the UNO Soccer Field.
