Biography

As a redshirt sophomore Mateo wrestled at 141 pounds, and had a 18-16 overall record. He was the only member of the Mules squad to qualify for the NCAA-II Championship. Mateo finished the season with the most takedowns on the team (61), and in wins by major decision (4). He was second in reversals (10) and in three-point near falls (9)
As a redshirt freshman Mateo wrestled at 133 pounds, and had a 25-13 overall record with four wins by fall, 47 takedowns, 39 escapes, and three reversals. He led the team in both two-point nearfalls (17) and three-point nearfalls (12) as well as wins by technical falls (4).
In high school Mateo won the Missouri class four state title as a senior. He made the All-Conference team three times, and All-District twice. He took fourth place at Greco Junior Nationals in 2010.
Mateo is the son of Mel and Michelle Hempstead. He is majoring in Physical Eduation
