Julia Bates named MIAA Specialist of the week after back-to-back 3-0 wins last week

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Central Missouri senior Julia Bates was named the MIAA Specialist of the Week for the third time this season. Bates helped the Jennies (29-1, 15-1 MIAA) sweep No. 7 Nebraska-Kearney (26-5, 12-4 MIAA) and Fort Hays State (14-19, 4-13 MIAA) last week.

Bates averaged 11.00 assists, 2.00 digs and 1.83 kills per set as the Jennies clinched a share of the MIAA title with two wins last week. She hit .375 on the week. In the sweep of No. 7 Nebraska-Kearney she had 34 assists, seven digs, three kills, two blocks and two serving aces. In the MIAA title-clinching sweep of Fort Hays State, the Leavenworth, Kan. native had 32 assists, eight kills, five digs, two aces, and a block.

The Jennies will take on Pittsburg State in the opening round of the MIAA Championship. The match will take place Tuesday at the UCM Multipurpose Building, beginning at 7 p.m.
